October 2002 Newsletter

Dove season was sure a winner this year, at least for my partners and me. As you read this newsletter, I’m probably stalking a pronghorn in southeastern Wyoming - wish me luck!

Please be extra conscious of range safety, especially now with the range getting busier. The more experienced shooters can help out the range officers by being more observant of inexperienced shooters, making sure they adhere to all range safety rules. Just as a refresher, some of the rules that are sometimes overlooked include: a cease fire must be called on both sides of the range whenever anyone goes beyond the 100-yard berm, and the orange flag should be placed out on the 18-bench side; no firearms are to be handled anywhere on the range during a cease fire (except in the office or the parking lot); and all firearms are to be unloaded and checked in the office upon arrival at the range. Remember, safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Tentative plans for a fun shoot sometime in November, details yet to be determined. Any suggestions on what you’d like to shoot - contact me at 758-6108, or dts@clarkston.com.

Anyone interested in shooting .22 rimfire rifle silhouette matches, please contact Dennis Schult (758-6108, dts@clarkston.com).

The annual Pheasants Forever dinner and auction will be held Thursday, October 3, at the Helm. Contact Dennis Schult for more info or tickets (758-6108, dts@clarkston.com).

The berms at the range need some redressing. This work could be done during ceasefire periods while the range is open, allowing volunteer workers to get some shooting in at the same time. If you are willing to help, contact Ken Jacks at 798-7380, or kjacks@clarkston.com.

Please save your plastic bags for use in the targets to be constructed for the archery range. We’ll need lots and lots of plastic grocery bags, plastic drop cloths, and the like.

The October membership meeting will be held Wednesday, October 2, 7:30 p.m., in the basement of Meriwether Lewis Hall, LCSC campus.

If you are still receiving this letter via US mail, but would like to receive it via e-mail, please send your name and e-mail address to dts@clarkston.com; this could save the club considerable costs in copying and postage.
