Idaho legislative news: Senator Gerry Sweet (R-20) and Representative Bill Sali (R-21) co-sponsored NRA-supported bills: House Bill 686 will protect non-profit shooting ranges and gun clubs from having taxes imposed on their range fees and membership dues; and Senate Bill 1428, "Right-to-Carry" reform legislation, extends the concealed weapon license from four to five years and requires renewal notices be sent out prior to license expiration. Senator Skip Brandt (R-8) sponsored House Bill 608, legislation that creates an NRA motor vehicle license plate. Senate Bill 1441, carried by Senators Mel Richardson (R-32) and Joyce Broadsword (R-2), is "Castle Doctrine" legislation that will provide immunity from civil action for anyone who has used lawful force in self-defense - if a criminal attacks a victim and the victim successfully defends him or herself and in the process injures or kills the criminal, then neither the criminal nor the criminal's family can seek judgment against the victim for damages; this bill was headed to the Governor's desk.

From President Rick Brigham: To date, over $800 has been collected from raffle ticket sales solicited through the last newsletter. Thanks to all of you who have participated in this drive. A special thanks to Stan and Jean Wilson who put out the last newsletter; it took a lot of extra folding, sorting, and keeping track of ticket numbers.
Please bring all of your raffle ticket stubs and monies collected to the next membership meeting, so an accurate count can be made of how many tickets have actually been sold. We will attempt to set a drawing date at the meeting; the drawing will definitely be held before all 1,500 tickets are sold.

If you are still receiving this letter via US mail, but would like to receive it via e-mail, please send your name and e-mail address to dts@clarkston.com; this could save the club considerable costs in copying and postage.

The May membership meeting will be held Wednesday, May 3, beginning at 7:30 p.m., in room B32 in the basement of Lewis Hall, LCSC campus.
