August 2006 Newsletter

The raffle drawing for the ATV, Savage .243 rifle, 10/22 rifle, and $100 cash prizes will be held at the August general membership meeting. If you have not already done so, get those ticket stubs and cash to Frank Perkins or bring them to the meeting.

From President Rick Brigham: I would like to have as many members attend the August 2 meeting as possible for two reasons: the raffle drawing, and final discussion of range development proposals/needs. B.J. Lillibridge, Idaho Fish and Game Hunter Safety Coordinator, will do the drawing, in addition to making a short presentation on the Hunter Safety program.

Here is what range development proposals (target butt excavation) have evolved to so far: 1) butts would be 60 feet wide (accommodate 10 target holders, plus a ramp for the ATV against the west wall); 2) butts would have 5-6 foot backstops; 3) material would be removed at each yardage and meter marker (200-300-400), but not combined. Competitive shooting from beyond the 100 yard/meter targets would be done from benches 1-10. Note that currently, from the number 1 bench, none of the existing target holders beyond 100 yards/meters are visible when shooting from the standing position, which will require existing fixed and hinged baffles be raised.

What shooting games require target holders at 200 yards/meters and beyond? Potential matches include CMP and Hunter Bench Rest. What other types of competition do you want, and are volunteers willing to run? This is the key question for the club - if the demand is not there and the support is not either, then should dirt work be done beyond 300 yards? Show up and let's discuss it, so we can move forward on development. Thanks.

The August membership meeting will be held Wednesday, August 2, beginning at 7:30 p.m., in room B32 in the basement of Lewis Hall, LCSC campus.
