May 2007 Newsletter

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE: Bob Humphrey, a long-time mainstay and major supporter of this club, was diagnosed early this month with ALS–Lou Gehrig’s disease, the worst and most aggressive of the three types of motor neuron diseases. He is at home. I am asking each of you to pray for him, and his wife Shirley, in this extremely difficult time for both of them. They recently acquired a computer, which Bob is learning to operate. Bob’s new email address is bhumphrey <AT> clearwire.net And Shirley’s is shumphrey <AT> clearwire.net. Both of these fine people would love to hear from you, either by email, or by calls or visits. Please do what you can.

This Nation has been struck by another senseless mass killing, using firearms. The prayers of millions of people, including me, go out to the parents, siblings, and friends of those who were killed at Virginia Tech, as well as the survivors who either barricaded themselves, thus saving their lives, or jumped out of windows. Cho was another person who slipped through the cracks of our social system–the same as the two Columbine shooters. All that aside, there is already a hue and cry for more stringent gun control laws. Be prepared, all of you please, to write individual letters to your Idaho and Washington senators and representatives opposing more anti-gun laws. Your letters and other communications will help maintain Second Amendment rights as granted under our Constitution. ‘Nuff said. But be ready to respond....

A big THANKS!! to Mike Washburn for taking on the job of Secretary/Newsletter Editor–it is very much appreciated! And welcome to Dennis Prine, as the club’s newest RO trainee! And anyone reading this who is interested in helping the club by becoming a Range Officer, please contact Dean Narramore at 758-3279.

From Mike’s April 4 minutes: CMP shooters may purchase 30-06 ammo from the club, the cost of which is $50 for 240 rounds; Boy Scout leaders have approached Ken Jacks (and the club) about working together to implement BSA’s traditional shooting programs; Some sort of signal mechanism(from both the 6-bench and 18-bench sides) is needed to get RO attention, to either shut down the lines or make them hot. This happens especially during scheduled matches.

UPCOMING MEETINGS AND MATCHES: April 28-Silhouette match; May 2-General Membership meeting at LCSC; May 12-Silhouette match; May 19-CMP course B match; May 20-Hunter Bench Rest 100/200 yards.
