July 2007 NewsletterMr Dave Cadwallader, the Clearwater Regional Supervisor of Idaho Department of Fish & Game spoke at our June meeting along with Ms Jennifer Bruns who is the regional volunteer coordinator. Dave fielded a lot of questions from the membership about the short range weapons only season which is for this year only and all sight types are permitted. Also other questions were about seasons, hunting areas, etc. Dave’s agenda included the Redbird Management area which is under development. There is a possibility of an open wolf season this fall depending on opposing lawsuits and so on. Studies are being conducted on the impact on elk and deer populations by wolves and other predators. Also there will be a different company that will print the hunting and fishing licenses on paper that won’t fade. So now if you get pulled into the water by a 20 lb steelhead or sweat buckets into your wallet while tromping around in elk country you can still read your license. Check their website http://fishandgame.idaho.gov for updates on all this and for details on the Sportsman’s Breakfast. Jennifer talked about free fishing days for kids and ongoing work projects that have volunteers recover and count birds or clear and prep areas for game habitats. This is a great opportunity for us to get out get involved with things that justify our use of the “W” word in our name. Please see their website. OBTW, when you go please take pictures.
