LEWIS CLARK WILDLIFE CLUB NEWSLETTER - MARCH 2010

FRIENDS OF NRA BANQUET There are still tickets left. Our club has benefitted some $33,000 from FRNA grants over the past 10 years. PLEASE support the banquet, which is the fundraiser, by calling Gary Blackwell 208-790-3793 ASAP and buying a ticket. Price is $40 each and the Banquet is this coming Saturday, March 27. Thanks!

The CMP/M1 GARAND MATCH on March 20 saw 25 M1 Garand and Carbine shooters, plus two non-old-rifle shooters, for a total of 27–best ever for a CMP match. High overall was Luis Valdez, with 269/1x, followed by Zane Cunningham with 267/3x; third was Nancy Muller with 259/3x. Congratulations! These are some of the best scores shot at this range. The next CMP match will be held April 17. Plan on signing up at 9AM and shooting at 9:30. Call Ken Jacks at 208-798-3159 or email him at: kenjacks504@gmail.com for more information.

SILHOUETTE MATCH NEXT SATURDAY, MARCH 27. This uses cowboy rifles and cartridges, and handguns. Sign up at 9AM, start shooting by 10AM. Contact Pete Murray in Asotin at 509-243-3590 for details. Cost is only $8.00 per shooter. It is fun knocking over those little chicken, pig, turkey, and bighorn steel silhouettes! And makes you learn to shoot offhand!

NEXT SUNDAY, MARCH 28, WILL SEE A NBRSA - NATIONAL BENCH REST SHOOTERS ASSOCIATION - SANCTIONED BENCH-REST MATCH at the range. Regular Hunter bench rest is featured, which includes shooting at 5 bulls for score on each of five targets at 100 and 200 yards. Added this year is Varmint-for-score - different rifles and scopes, but the same targets and distances and 7 minutes for five shots for record. Call Glenn Sampson in Colfax at 509-397-2075 for details. Cost is $30.00 per shooter-$15 for each range. Get to the range early - just after 7AM to set up and plan to start shooting at 9AM.

APPLESEED MATCHES are scheduled for April 2-4 and May 8-9. Sign up on the internet. Go to Google and type in Appleseed Matches for the info. Several club members have had a good time and even learned a few things about shooting, AND about early United States History, including the Second Amendment. Cost is about $70-80 for the weekend; semi auto rifles (even your Ruger 10/22 is ok) are preferred, and courses of fire may take up to 500 rounds for the weekend. Check the internet Appleseed match schedule including the Lewis-Clark Range on the dates above, for actual $ and ammo requirements.

THE CLUB NEEDS A LOCAL PLUMBER to prepare a solid cost estimate for what is needed to replace the septic system (the septic tank is surrounded by railroad ties in front of benches 16 and 17 at the range). We need the estimate so it can be included in a Friends of the NRA Grant Application by mid-September of this year. As noted above, the FNRA has been very good to this club. We had major problems with the system last year-heavy rains backfilled the drainage field (between the chicken and turkey silhouette banks) and drained into the septic tank. We had to have the tank pumped twice last summer (and only had the septic tank pumped twice in the prior ten years). Please contact Gary Blackwell to schedule time to look at the situation.

THE BRIDGE ON THE 6-BENCH SIDE is going to have a structural facelift. We need at least 10 people for Monday, April 26 for bridge deconstruction starting at 8AM and lasting into the afternoon. The existing plywood decking and lateral wood supports plus side rails must all be removed and either hauled away or burned. Lunch will be provided. Please bring gloves, wrecking bars, mauls, sawzalls with "axe" blades (we have power cords), digging/pry bars. Contact Mike Washburn 746-2699 or Gary Blackwell 790-3793 to sign up. We need your help! And contact Mike Washburn if you can help with regular Wednesday work days.

AGENDA ITEMS – do you have anything you want discussed by the club or the Board? Please let Rick Brigham 509-751-0310 know ASAP so it can be included. Thanks!

ARE YOU A MEMBER OF THE NRA? If you are, great! If you are not, please seriously consider joining it. While you may not agree with all that the NRA does, it does a great deal to promote the shooting sports, and the Friends of the NRA grants have helped make our range the fine place that it is.

APRIL 7 GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING WILL BE AT THE IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME OFFICE IN LEWISTON, STARTING AT 7PM. See you there!
